Providing a Healthy & Safe Workplace and a Clean Environment

At Solara, we are fully committed to proactively adapt and achieve high standards of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) systems and practices. The importance of EHS is continually stressed and extensively promoted as a part of our corporate culture.

Our EHS framework provides for the creation of a safe, healthy workplace for our employees, contractors and the community. It aims for positive culture throughout the organisation to ensure that everyone returns home safely every day. We are committed that we will manufacture products safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.

The implementation of the EHS framework is ensured by institutionalising a robust EHS Management System, adequately supported by a well-defined organisational structure. EHS performance is periodically reviewed at all our facilities and corporate levels to monitor the progress against EHS improvement plans.

The fundamental processes comprise regular safety inspections and audits; permit to work system for operational/maintenance safety; fire prevention and protection activities; operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP); disposal activities related to hazardous wastes; and regular monitoring of the environment, internally and also through approved laboratories. Observance or celebration of National Safety Day, National Fire Safety Day and World Environment Day, among others, to promote EHS awareness amongst employees.

We have made significant safety improvements in one of our facility located in Cuddalore by implementation of Risk Based Process Safety Management(RBPSM) system to the requirements of the PSM developed by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Implementation of RBPSM integrated all aspects of risks and brought the process associated risks under control.

Investments have been made in process improvements as well as upgrading of effluent treatment plants, using membrane-based technologies, multi-effect evaporators (MEE), Agitated Thin Film dryers. With these equipment installed for recycling of the treated effluent, we have achieved the status of “zero liquid discharge” at our manufacturing and R & D facilities located in Cuddalore, Puducherry, Mangaluru, Ambernath, Bengaluru & Chennai. We have also converted coal-fired boiler to biomass briquettes/ Piped Natural Gas (PNG) fired plants which led to reduce our Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

We accord the highest priority to Industrial hygiene monitoring at workplace and health assessment of all employees at facilities. Our plant and processes are continuously upgraded to improve hygiene and health standards. Necessary training is imparted to employees to enhance their awareness of health and safety related matters.
